Puranjit Dasgupta (also known as RJ Mantra) is an Indian actor, director, producer and radio jockey. He is famous for his tongue in cheek humour. He has hosted many television shows and also participated in a dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja on Colors TV. Mantra was awarded by PETA with “Hero of Animals” in 2017 for rescuing a parrot caught in a wire.
Biography
Puranjit Dasgupta was born on 21 August 1982 to actress Chandra Dasgupta and publisher Prabir Dasgupta in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He did his schooling from Indore Public School. He took nom de plume Mantra and started his career as a Radio Jockey for Radio Mirchi in 2000. Later he also worked for BIG FM 92.7.
Matra shifted to Delhi in 2003, he started his acting class under Barry John at IMAGO. He did The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Melody of Love, Ouch, Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and many more theatre shows.
He also participated in a dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja 6 as wild card entry, played the lead role on Narayan Narayan- Chulbule Narad Ki Natkhat Leelayen aired on Big Magic channel.
His first big screen appearance come with Tum Mile in 2009 with Vinesh Films, a cameo in Game (2011) starrer with Abhishek Bachchan. He subsequently appeared in Bheja Fry 2 (2011), Panipat (2019) and Hum Tum Shabana (2011).
