Neha Mahajan was born on Saturday, 18 August 1990 (age 31 years; as of 2021) in Talegaon Dabhade, Pune, Maharashtra. After doing her schooling at Talegaon Balvikas School, Pune, she went ahead to pursue theatre and acting at Trimble Tech High School in Texas, on a scholarship. Mahajan got her Master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Pune.

Neha Mahajan belongs to a Maharashtrian Brahmin family. Her father, Pandit Vidur Mahajan, is a prominent Sitar artist and her mother, Aparna Mahajan, is an author.

She grew up in a cultural and musical environment, which further deepened her interest in the entertainment industry. Her father gave her the training in playing the Sitar and made her accompany him in the performances as well.

Career
Neha started her career when the award-winning directors, Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukathanar, noticed her and cast her in their film Bewaqt Barish, while she was still studying. She made her English debut in Salman Rushdie‘s Midnight’s Children, directed by Deepa Mehta, in the year 2012. In the year 2014, Neha grabbed a Marathi film, Ajoba and her Hindi debut, Feast of Varanasi. She enacted the role of Abha in the Marathi classic, Coffee Ani Barach Kahi (2015), which won her awards as well as appreciation. Other than these, Neha Mahajan did some more Marathi movies such as Nilkanth Master (2015), Aai Tujha Aashirwad (2016), Friends (2016), Youth (2016), One Way Ticket (2016), and Tujha Tu Majha Mi (2017).

She did her Malayalam debut with the movie, The Painted House (2015). Her recent projects include some worth mentioning films, such as Rohit Shetty’s Simba (2018), Deepa Mehta’s Leila (2019) and Chris Hemsworth starrer Extraction (2020). When asked in an interview about her filmy career, Neha replied,
Whatever roles I have done, I consider it as my learning process and it will continue to be so and therefore every role I do will continue to be so and whatever role is challenging for me as an actress I will accept. And if you ask me about the hit film at the start of my career, the basic story of Coffee ani Barach Kahi was a simple love story that everyone could relate to it easily. I have got another role like this in Siddhant too.”

Controversies
- Neha did a topless scene for a Malayalam movie which somehow got leaked. Talking about the same in an interview, she said that she had a word with her parents in-prior, and there was nothing vulgar about that scene. According to her, the film required that particular scene for the character, so she did it.

- She is multilingual and says will act in any language as long as the script is good.
- Neha’s favourite season is Monsoon and she enjoys getting drenched in the first sprinkle every year. Speaking about the same in an interview, she said,
Monsoon is my favourite season and I always drench myself with the first shower and even if monsoon comes every year the feeling of getting wet in the first shower is something else. I like to take long walks on the seashore while it’s raining and I will never forget these experiences.”
- Neha Mahajan acted as Ophelia in the Marathi translation of the world-famous play Hamlet, directed by Madhav Vaze’s stage production in 2013.
