He did his schooling in Allahabad and has completed his graduation. He decided to pursue his passion for acting in college and began performing in theatre; after graduating, he relocated to Mumbai. After coming to Mumbai in the year 2004, he did his debut in the serial Chauda Phere which was aired on DD National.

Anurag Sharma began modeling and acting while still in college. He arrived in Mumbai in 2004 and began his career in the entertainment industry with the serial Chauda Phere. He has also appeared in series like Prithviraj Chauhan and Bahubali on television. Along with acting in television series, Anurag Sharma has also appeared in some commercials.
His characterization of Satish Deshpande in Zee TV’s Pavitra Rishta and Param Khurana in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein was well-received. Pavitra Rishta is an Indian television show that aired on Zee TV in the year 2009-to 2012 and was an adaption from the South Indian Tamil serial Thirumathi Selvam.
