Sangeetha Sajith (1976-2022) was an Indian playback singer and Carnatic musician. She mainly worked in South Indian films. On 22 May 2022, she passed away of kidney- ailments.

Her father’s name is VG Sachith, and her mother’s name is Rajamma. She had two elder sisters named Swapna Shyamaprasad and Smitha Anil.

Career


Sangeetha Sajith started her career as a singer with the Tamil song “MTV Parthuputta” in the film ‘Naalaiya Theerpu’ (1992). She worked as a singer in more than 200 songs.

She rose to fame with the Tamil song “Thaneerai Kadhalikum” from the film ‘Mr. Romeo’ (1996) composed by the famous Indian musician A. R. Rahman. She lent her voice for the songs like “Ambili Poovattam” from ‘Ennu Swantham Janakikutty’ (1998), “Aalare Govinda” from ‘Kakkayuil’ (2001), “Odathandil Thalam Kittum” from ‘Pazhassi Raja’ (2009), and “Dhum Dhum Dooreyetho” from ‘Rakkilipattu’ (2013). She sung the Malayalam song “Thaalam Poyi” from the film ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ (2009). In one of the Tamil Nadu Government Film Awards ceremonies, she hymned the Tamil song “Gnana Pazhathai Pizhinthu.” The late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who was present there as a chief guest liked her song and gifted her a gold chain. In 2020, she lent her voice to the Malayalam song “Thaalam Poyi” from the film ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum.’ Her last song was a theme song for the Malayalam film ‘Kuruthi’ (2021).


Death


After suffering from several kidney- ailments, she left the world on 22 May 2022. She took her last breath at her sister’s residence in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Her last rites were performed at the public crematorium Saanthi Kavadamn, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Various South Indian celebrities like the veteran Indian singer KS Chithra shared her grief on Sangeetha’s demise. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also shared his condolences. The Indian song composer James Bejoy took to Facebook to share his grief. He uploaded a photo of Sangeetha with the caption,


You were always so sweet and warm. It was a privilege I could work with you on the song ‘Thalam Poyi.”
