Dinesh Hingoo



Dinesh Hingoo is an Indian actor who is known for playing comic and supporting roles in the Bollywood film industry. He is well known for appearing in films like Namak Halaal (1982), Baazigar (1993), Judwaa (1997), Hera Pheri (2000), and No Entry (2005).

She used the name ‘Jamuna Merchant’ as her screen name for theatre plays. The couple met at a theatre play titled ‘Mangal Phera,’ which was staged in Mumbai.  Dinesh and Jamuna’s parents were not in favour of their marriage and the couple got married without their parent’s consent.  The couple has two sons, Rajiv Hingoo and Jignesh Hingoo. Rajiv works at Jefferies Group, an American multinational independent investment bank. While Jignesh holds a master’s degree in dental morphology and owns Kavana Dental Pvt Ltd.

Career


Theatre Artist


Dinesh Hingoo started his career as a theatre artist. Dinesh actively participated in the dramatics department in a music college in Vadodara. During his college days, Dinesh participated in a theatre play which was staged in Mumbai. Later, he shifted to Mumbai and started doing theatre and stage plays. After performing in various theatre plays, Dinesh’s interest shifted to mimicry. He participated in a Mimicry Competition Night at Open Gate Theatre in Dhobi Talao, Mumbai. Later, Dinesh continued his mimicry shows with celebrities like Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Mohamad Rafi, Hemant Kumar, Talat Mahmood, and Hemant Kumar.


Film


In 1967, Dinesh Hingoo made his debut in the Bollywood film industry with the film Taqdeer and played the role of a villain.

Dinesh is known for his unique laughter style and imitation of a Parsi businessman in various films like Qurbaani (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), Asmaan Se Ooncha (1989), Paap Ka Ant(1989), Bhabhi (1991), Judaai (1997), Baadshah (1999), and Phir Hera Pheri (2006).

In 1978, Dinesh Hingoo’s made his debut as a comedian with the film Nasbandi and played the role of Rahmani. In 1989, he appeared in the film Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni in which he played the role of Jhokumal Makmal Pyarelal. In 1993, Dinesh played the role of Bajodia Seth in the film Baazigar.

In 1996, Dinesh Hingoo appeared in the film Chhote Sarkar in which he played the role of an army officer.

Dinesh In 1997, he played the role of a jeweller in the film Judwaa.

In 1999, he played the role of Karodimal Seth in the film Rajaji alongside Govinda. He is known for his character as Chaman Jhinga in the film Hera Pheri (2000).

Facts/Trivia



  • Johnny Lever, in an interview, stated that he took inspiration from Dinesh Hingoo to become a mimicry artist before coming into films. Further, he revealed that it was Dinesh Hingoo who gave him a break to perform on stage as a comedian.
