Bharati Jaffrey was a prominent Indian actress and theatre personality. She was known for being the daughter of the late Hindi actor Ashok Kumar. She passed away on 20 September 2022 in Mumbai after suffering from a prolonged illness. Her daughter Anuradha Patel and son-in-law Kanwaljit Singh shared her death news on social media soon after her demise.

Film


In 2001, Bharati Jaffrey was cast in the film ‘Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence’ as a supporting actress. The renowned Indian actress Raveena Tandon was the lead actress in the film and was directed by Kalpana Lajmi. Bharati Jaffery played the role of a strong and powerful village woman.

Bharati Jaffrey was a prominent Indian actress who was the recipient of a distinction for being cast in a German International movie. She appeared in the television show Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa in 1998, and in the following year, she worked in the popular television serial Saans, aired on Star Plus along with her co-actors Neena Gupta and Kanwaljit Singh.

  • According to Bharati Jaffery, her acting career was inspired by her father, Ashok Kumar, who used to take his bother daughters to his shooting sets in their childhood. In an interview with a media house, Bharati remembered that she was pampered like a princess at Ashok Kumar’s workplace by his co-workers. She recalled,

    Papa exposed us to world cinema and the creative arts. I used to go to the sets with him and we used to be treated like little princesses. Those days, there was no television.”
