Hugh O’Leary was born in July 1974 (age 48 years; as of 2022) in Allerton, Merseyside in England. He spent the initial years of his childhood in the suburbs of Allerton, Liverpool, England; later, he moved to Heswall, Wirral in England with his family. He went to The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics.

Hugh O’Leary and Liz Truss started dating each other after meeting for the first time at the 1997 Conservative Party conference in Blackpool, England. They went ice skating on their first date. In an interview, Liz talked about an awkward incident regarding their first date. She said,


I invited him ice skating and he sprained his ankle.”

Politician


He is a member of Conservative Party in the United Kingdom. He was chosen as a candidate for the Conservative Party in local elections to Greenwich London Borough Council many times; however, he could not win any of them. In 1998, he stood for the council elections for St Alfege ward. In 2002, he was picked as a candidate for the council elections in Greenwich West; however, he lost the elections with 447 votes. In 2006, he was elected for the candidacy in the Charlton ward at the Greenwich elections.


Accountant


He worked at The Small HR Company, a human resource services company in London. Later, he worked at Bumper, which is a financial services company. He worked at a business consulting and services company in London named Nick Buick Associates and later, at a staffing and recruiting company named Halliday Marx. Some other companies he has worked at are ESTAMA and Westfield.


Director


On 11 January 2012, he was appointed as the director of Wall Stoke Limited company, which was later dissolved. According to the alumni page of LSE University, he is a finance director at Affinity Global Real Estate, which is a joint owner and manager of a commercial real estate portfolio worth more than 160 million pounds.

  • From 1992 to 1995, Hugh studied econometrics and mathematical economics in LSE University, which turned out to be very helpful for Liz whenever she needs to discuss about supply-side reform or economics. During a speech in 2018, while praising the University where he studied, she said,

    It means that whenever I want a late-night discussion about supply-side reform or econometrics, there’s always someone on hand.”
