Mahesh Thakur



Mahesh Thakur is an Indian actor, producer, author, and entrepreneur who primarily appears in Hindi television shows and Bollywood films. He is well known for playing the role of Anand Babu in the Bollywood film Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999).

Mahesh Kishen Thakur was born on Wednesday, 1 October  1969 (age 53 years; as of 2022) in Mumbai, India. His zodiac sign is Libra. At the age of three, Mahesh left India and shifted to Panama in Central America. To pursue his graduation, he came back to India. Later, Mahesh completed his MBA degree in Panama, US. In the early 1990s, he shifted back to India, and he enrolled himself at the Roshan Taneja School of Acting in Mumbai to learn the basics of acting.

Religion


Mahesh Thakur follows Hinduism, and he is a follower of Sai Baba. In an interview, he talked about his belief in Sai Baba and said,


In my real life too, I am a believer of Sai Baba and I believe in him since childhood.”


Career


Film


While completing his post-graduation in Panama, Mahesh decided to try his hand at acting, and in the early 1990s, he shifted to India. In an interview, he said,


I am here for the sheer love of acting. I was brought up in Panama, Central America and came to India for acting and after a few not-so-successful films, I dabbled with theatre and began acting in TV series,”


In 1990, Mahesh made his acting debut with the Bollywood film Meri Janeman.

He shot to fame with the film Hum Saath-Saath Hain in which he played the role of Anand Babu.

In 2006, Mahesh appeared as Robby Kohli in the film Humko Deewana Kar Gaye. In 2013, he played the role of Saigal in the film Aashiqui 2.

In 2014, Mahesh acted in the film Jai Ho in which he played the role of Rehaan. In 2016, Rajesh made his Bengali debut with the film Game Plan in which he played the role of Akash.

In 2021, he played the role of Ravikant Agarwal in the film Velle.


Theatre artist


Since his college days, Mahesh participated in various stage and drama plays. Some of his theatrical productions include Tota Maina Ki Kahani, which was staged in Dubai, Dil Chahta Hai, and Made For Each Other.

Television


In 1994, Mahesh made his television debut with the show Tu Tu Main Main on DD Metro in which he played the role of Ravi Jaanu Verma.

In 2003, Mahesh shot to fame with the show Shararat in which he played the role of Dr Suraj Malhotra on StarPlus.

In 2004, he played the role of Pankaj Sabharwal in the show, Malini Iyer, featuring Sridevi. In an interview, he talked about his experience of working with Sridevi in the show Malini Iyer and said,


She used to give all her time to her work and rehearsals. Until I wasn’t satisfied with my own rehearsal, she would never say, let’s start shooting. With her, it was all about teamwork. She was very graceful in everything she would do. There was no ego in her. It was a fantastic experience working with her.”

In 2017, he played the role of Tej Singh Oberoi in the show Dil Boley Oberoi on StarPlus. For the first time, Mahesh played an antagonist in the show Dil Boley Oberoi.

In 2021, he portrayed the character of Govind Dabholkar, who scripted the book “Shree Sai Satcharitra,” in the show Mere Sai: Shraddha Aur Saburi on Sony TV. In an interview, on being asked about how he felt about portraying the character of Govind Dabholkar, Mahesh said,


It is an honour for me to be a part of such a magnificent show. I will be portraying the role of Govind Dabholkar, who known for penning the Padyapankti about Sai Baba. My character, Govind Dabholkar, comes from a poor background but manages to achieve success on his own and works as a clerk, for which he is well respected in society.”


Web series


In March 2019, Mahesh made his digital debut, and he portrayed the role of Narendra Modi, 14th Prime Minister of India, in the web series Modi: Journey of a Common Man on Eros Now.

Mahesh is the founder of Kreative Flight Films Private Limited, a film production company in Mumbai, which produces both films and television shows. On 11 December 2019, he joined the company as a director.

Controversy


Financial fraud of Rs 5.43 crores by his lawyer


In September 2022, Mahesh Thakur filed a case against his lawyer, Mayank Goyal, a Chandigarh-based man. As per sources, Mayank represented Mahesh in a legal case of property dispute, and he constantly demanded money to file the petition at the high court or to pay the court fees. On being asked about the payment receipts and other case- documents, Mayank refused to deliver them and disappeared. Mahesh filed a complaint at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai alleging that his lawyer cheated him of Rs 5.43 crores. The Mumbai Police registered a complaint under sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
